What we collect, and what we don't

Short version: reading the archive needs no account and sets no tracking cookies. We collect almost nothing, and nothing that identifies you unless you write to us.

Last updated 2026-10-31. When we add a feature that handles personal data, this page is updated the same day.

Reading the site

  • No account needed: every file, source, timeline, Real or fake and the clearance levels are open to everyone.
  • Your clearance progress (files opened, quiz score, Level 2) is stored only in your own browser (localStorage). We never receive it. You can reset it on the Clearance page.
  • Statistics: Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free and does not build a profile of you.
  • We count page views ourselves without cookies, IP addresses or user agents: only the page and the day/hour.

Ask the Archivist

If you ask the Archivist a question, it goes to Anthropic (Claude) to be answered from our dossiers. We do not keep your question. For the daily limit we keep a hashed version of your IP address for at most 26 hours.

Tips and messages

If you send us a tip or a message, we receive what you write and your e-mail address. We use it only to check the tip and reply.

Who is responsible (controller)

Majestic Archive is run by its editors, Wess and Jeroen (the Netherlands). Contact: [email protected].

Legal basis (GDPR / AVG art. 6)

  • Statistics and security (cookie-free analytics, page counts, spam and abuse protection): legitimate interest (art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Tips and messages: legitimate interest in checking a tip and replying.

How long we keep it

  • Page counts: totals per page and day/hour only, no personal data.
  • Tips and messages: at most 12 months.

Who processes data for us (processors)

  • Cloudflare: hosting, cookie-free statistics, page counts, e-mail routing for hello@.
  • Google (Gmail): the mailbox that receives messages sent to hello@.
  • Anthropic: answering questions to the Archivist.

Some of these providers are based in or may transfer data to countries outside the EU (for example the United States). Where that happens, it relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your data at [email protected]. You may also complain to the Dutch data protection authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
